Tuesday Tutorial: Felt Flower on Chevron Print Headband

IMG_4833aThis is our fourth and final post on the “What the heck to do with those felt circles?” series. We know we can use them to attach to the backs of flowers and things, but it’s nice to have more than one use for something, don’t you agree?

Today we’re going to learn how to make this sweet felt flower headband. Let’s get started!

Materials Needed:

Chevron Print Fold Over Elastic Headband

15 MM Pearlies Center Embellishment

Scrap of Felt Fabric

Glue Gun

Scissors

Step One:

Take your scrap piece of felt and cut a circle roughly 1-1/4″ in diameter (mine is bigger in the photo, but I trimmed it down a bit). It doesn’t need to be a perfect circle. You won’t see it once we’re done.

Set this piece aside for now.

IMG_4821Step Two:

Take one of your felt circles and put a dab of hot glue right near the edge like this:

IMG_4824Quickly, before the glue dries (but careful not to burn your fingers), pinch the felt circle on each side of the glue to create a petal piece. Like this:

IMG_4825You’re going to want to make about 10 of these petals.

Step Three:

Once you have all of your petals made, we’re going to start hot gluing them to the felt circle scrap from step one. I just placed a small bit of hot glue on the back of each petal and quickly placed it on the felt circle so that the pinched end was right about in the center of the circle.

IMG_4826IMG_4827It’s gonna be a bit messy. So just do your best to pick off any strands of hot glue. You can also take a lighter and quickly touch a flame to the hot glue to make it clear and less noticeable. Most of the mess in the center will be covered in the next step.

You can also trim any excess of the scrap felt circle that may be showing at this step too. This is what it will look like from the back.

IMG_4830Step Four:

Place a small dob of hot glue in the center of the felt flower that you’ve just completed. Then quickly place the pearl embellishment on top of the hot glue before it dries.

Step Five:

Now just hot glue the back of your little felt flower to the loop on your elastic headband.
