Tuesday Tutorial: Patriotic Pony Holder

Tutorial: Patriotic

Man, I wish I had a little girl. I guess I have to live vicariously through our customers lol. I think this pony holder would be so cute in a little’s girl’s hair! It reminds me of fireworks. I’m going to teach you to make this in very few steps and little time today.

Patriotic Pony Holder Step Meme

Materials Need:

Patriotic Pony Holder Supplies

About 4-5 feet each of 3-4 different ribbons. I used:

7/8″ Red Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon

5/8″ White Grosgrain Ribbon

3/8″ Royal Blue Grosgrain Ribbon

Elastic Pony Holder

Scissors

Lighter

Step One:

Cut your ribbon in pieces about 9″ in length. I ended up with 5 of each color, but you may end up needing more depending on the size of ribbon you are using.

Start tying the ribbons to your ponytail holder as shown below. I did mine in a red, white, blue pattern, but you can be totally random. Whatever order you want to do it in, and if you want more of one color than the others, just tie it your way.

Step Two:

Continue tying until your entire pony holder is hidden in ribbon. Try not to push them too tightly together. This will stretch out your pony holder and it won’t be very stretchy anymore.

Patriotic Pony Holder Step Two

Step Three:

You’ll want to trim up your ends and make them even and neat looking. I didn’t want mine all the same length, so I staggered them, but that it up to you.

Patriotic Pony Holder Step Four

Once you have them all trimmed up nicely, take your lighter and quickly heat the ends of each ribbon to seal them from fraying. Be careful not to burn yourself or your ribbons. It only takes a couple of seconds on each end, don’t hold it too long or it will start on fire.

Patriotic Pony Holder Step Five

Isn’t that just so cute! I love it. I think it makes a fun little addition to a holiday outfit. And, you can make them in whatever colors suit any outfit. They’re cheap, quick, and fun!

Tuesday Tutorial: Loopy Ribbon Puff Clip

Isn’t this clip just too cute? I’m loving it! And it is very versatile. Any girl could wear this. Wouldn’t it be too cute as a pom-pom look for a cheerleader? You could even use school colors!

Materials Needed:

40-50 3″ strips of 3/8″ grosgrain ribbon (I used 45, 15 each in 3 different colors)

Ribbon Lined Alligator Clip (or any other clip/headband of your choosing)

String/Thread and Needle. My string was about 18″ long.

Lighter

Scrap Piece of Felt

Glue Gun

Scissors

Loopy Ribbon Puff ClipStep One:

Using the lighter, seal all of the edges on each end of the strips of ribbon you have cut. This takes a bit of time, but is worth it. It prevents the ribbon from fraying later.

This photo is a little blurry, and I may have burnt the edge a bit, lol, but you won’t see that later.

Step Two:

Thread your string through the needle, then tie a knot in the opposite end of the thread. Fold one of your ribbon strips in half and slide onto your needle as shown.

Step Three:

Slide the ribbon off the needle and onto your string. Continue to do this with each loop of ribbon. I slid them to the end of the string every few pieces so they wouldn’t get in my way.

Step Four:

Once you have all of the ribbon pieces on your string, push them all tight together at the end of the string like so.

Step Five:

Tie the two ends of your string together, then clip off the excess length of string. Or, you can sew all of the ribbons together by passing the needle and thread back and forth through the ribbons and then tying off. Since we are going to be securing this puff to a felt circle with hot glue, I didn’t feel that was necessary.

Step Six:

Using your scissors, cut a circle about 2″ in diameter out of your small piece of felt. It doesn’t need to be a perfect circle. No one will see it when anyone is wearing it 🙂

Then, squeeze a thin layer of hot glue over most of the circle.

Step Seven:

While the glue is still hot, quickly press the bottom of your loopy ribbon puff (the side with the string knot showing) flat onto the glue side of your felt circle. Hold firmly in place for about 15 seconds to be sure it attaches well.,

Step Eight:

Hot glue your lined alligator clip to the bottom of the felt circle. And your done! Easy Peasy!
